Ideas to Learn french quicker!

A few ideas proven to help learn/improve your French much faster with useful links. Donations are very much needed and appreciated.

  1. Films and video streaming services: Today a lot more people stay at home and watch movies in their spare time, than ever before so it is easy to watch foreign films again and again. You can then choose how you'd like to have your subtitles or the spoken language so please go to our list of films on our Cinema page to find films you could really see with friends. It will explain where to find them whenever it is possible for Free, or at a cost. What is absolutely needed, if you want to access all French movies is to make google and so video streaming platforms, like Netflix that you are in whichever country you choose, for the films you'd like to watch and so the best way is to go a VPN service like ... and take a small subscription so you can change your location at a click of a button whenever needed.
  2. Radio: I myself helped a few friends learn English or French and what worked possibly the best, was to go to sleep or Wake up in the morning listening to Radio in the right language as being slighly inconscious make you assimilate inconsciously. Those who enjoy a glass of wine occasionally should listen to the radio while doing something else. A wine from the country you are hoping to learn the language from, could also help, but only in theory...
  3. Pubs: Like listening to the radio, being slightly inconscious helps assimilation and even concentration for the first one or two drinks, after that it becomes being more inconscious. I spoke to a few war veterans who explained to me that, in purpose, spies or soldiers going behind enemy lines would voluntarily go to the pub where they speak the right language to learn far quicker. Some even had their expenses paid... For beginners they'd still go to the pub but in England with other language speakers until ready to go.
  4. Books: Classical French books is the classical way millions have learnt the language through time but now many enjoy having more choice and will use children's books as designed for helping children learn or fun books like cartoons, comics and similar.
  5. Audio books: Audio books is the big thing nowadays as you can do other things and work while listening. Interestingly enough 15 years ago I nearly started a business about that and was visiting many Reference libraries where this was the only place to find a few since the late 90's. Audible is the biggest one where we can browse for the right books. Please go to our French/audio page and see what are members recommend.
  6. Podcasts: Podcast aren't books but peple getting interviewed about a subject or conversations and share of Knowledge/experience. Please go to our French/audio page and see what are members recommend.
  7. Traveling: People like travelling to places where they hope to go longer one day, more often or maybe for much longer and so we have groups on our platform that brings locals and travellers together in many different ways. See our groups page for more details...
  8. Practicing regularly online with friends: This is the best Free way to get to converse in your chosen language, make new accountances and friends you could practice with or swap languages with. The more often the better but possibly not everyday as you may not enjoy it as much in the long term so every 2 or 3 days is the best.
  9. Dictionary: When I landed on England's beach or Port I already had my dictionary I carried everywhere that became a good friend as I like books with that tactile sensation, book people enjoy. Now we don't need to as our mobile smartphones can do just that and even translate what the locals say instantly using Google. I  still have mine and still use it occasionally. I in fact bought a bigger one to help our Scrabble group at afternoon games.
  10. Swap languages: Imagine being able to speakthe prefered language everyday at no cost to you whatsoever simply by using your time instead and by regularly swapping languages. This is possible here by also joining local groups where you can mix online and in person conversation meetings.
  11. Do what you like: and learn the language at the same time such as Going to a yoga class, meditation, Life Drawing, Photography, mainly online. More and more classes and events will appear on our events page so please keep checking.
  12. In person events: as they say nothing beats in person events as you are using all your skills and emotions there and then. This is alsoa great way to find new contacts you could later meet regularly in person or online for more practice. This also keeps you buzz and motivation going. The only cons at those events is the possible cost in Time and £$ss drinks/food.
  13. News & Newspapers: This keep you informed and helps you discuss topics in French conversation meetups or when you travel to France or any French speaking country.
  14. Local History: We found 2022 surveys of what people want to read, know about in the US and the highest score is for History at 41% so we know now how much people in the World are into History, which is why we have he an history page for every language/country with main periods and related books, documentaries or films. Some have been recommended by our members.
  15. Dating: come naturally ocasionally when both parties want to know each other more because they realised that they have similar tastes, ideas and wishes which you can discover by conversing with another network member or anywhere and is obviously beneficial as you will spend more and more time together talking at least. We have groups here also for that where like on Facebook people friend each other first after looking at each other's profiles.
  16. Learning at school: School is an in person way of learning but not our favourite as there is hardly any conversation happening and people start loosing attention. Many language schools then become more of a dating place and less of a place to learn, knowing that the majority of Students are in their early 20's.
  17. Learning online : The one thing Corvid pandemic helped with was to keep people at home on their laptop watching youtube and dreaming of one day maybe, be able to run away or travel in a different country. Millions around the World learn one or even a few languages and are now extremely happy to be able to practice what they've learnt with really nice friendly bubches of people from anywhere.
  18. Penpals: is quite a recent method of helping you practice a language the hard way,  where there isn't much space for mistakes but plenty of time to avoid them, so millions across the World are, right now, as I am writing this, writing somethin about what the two sides have a shared interest in and it could be absolutely anything, changing subject, whenever wanted.
  19. Looking for work: By setting your Life plan to going to work abroad, you'll set yourself into a very active mode. You will need to learn anything that can help you get the job. This usually start with passing languages exams that are recognized in your industry.
  20. Looking for a new place to Live: This will trigger all other processes so that you will be ready to move ASAP. Looking for a House/property to buy is part of this process and can help the motivation.
  21. Meetups in the local language: You can use Local online zoom meetings but also go to in person meetups wherever you are travelling where most will speak English. For Local meetups only using the local language you need to google search in the chosen language and use a VPN service to make sure you find the local information you are looking for.
